Sikhia Hackathon: Saturday November 21, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

What is Sikhia?

Sikhia, a platform developed in the Harvard Innovation Lab, is a creative community that is engaged in crowdsourcing of videos on different topics related to Sikhi. The belief is that every person has the potential to create compelling content if given the right kind of mentorship. Over a period of time, we will be able to create a wealth of resources that use the different media formats to discuss important aspects of Sikh philosophy, life and history. More information is available at: http://www.sikhia.org

Who is the intended audience for the workshop?

High school, college students and adult creative minds are all welcome to attend. Just bring a laptop and a smart phone or a tablet with a camera. Be there at 9 am sharp on Saturday Nov 21, 2015! Please plan to be there for the entire workshop.

What will happen in the workshop?

We are launching Sikhia in Seattle to incubate the crowd sourcing of content from the youth in Seattle. We will be discussing a few different topics that address important issues related to the Sikhs. We will discuss how these are relevant to the contemporary times? How can Sikhs play a role to create a better world around us? We will consider how these play out in theological, historic, political, social and economic dimensions.

We will then challenge our participants to create storyboards on the topic, while mentors will be available to help them frame their narratives. As participants become story-tellers, they will then learn to translate their storyboards into real videos that we will shoot on the spot. Video editing assistance will be provided to polish the end product.

We want to turn the Panth from a mere consumer to a producer of video content. Please join us for a day full of fun. We will give you critical skills to engage in storytelling through video. You will become part of a network that will provide relationships and opportunities that you can leverage in the years to come.
