Orientation for New School Year 2016-2017 August 28, 2016<

Opening Day: August 28, 2016

If you have not registered for the school or have an incomplete registration, Registration Desk will open at 9:30 am at the school.

If you were not enrolled in the school last year or did not appear in the final examination or need to retake the final examination, the counselors will give a placement test to the students and assign an appropriate class based on the assessment. Please reach the Khalsa Gurmat Center at 9:30 am.

If you have already registered, you will get the student packet with the classes that have been assigned to your child and other information about the school.

The Diwan will start at 10:30 am that will also include parent and student orientation. It is extremely important that all parents along with the students attend the orientation. We shall also be providing an outline of the curriculum changes and some of the details for upcoming programs. There will be no classes after the orientation.

There will be only diwan on September 4th and no classes on that day.

The actual classes will start on September 11, 2016.

Please join us for the parent-teacher's meeting this Sunday March 13, 2016 at 12:30 p.m. This will be a great opportunity for you to interact with the teachers to find out how the student has been doing in their classes. At the same time, we want to use this time to listen to your suggestions, comments and concerns.

Please make sure the students attend their regular classes on time.

TWe are organizing a day hiking trip to Mt. Rainier on July 17, 2016.

A bus will be leaving Khalsa Gurmat Center at 7:30 am in the morning and will return back to the center by 5:00 p.m. If you want to ensure a seat on the bus for anyone in your family, please make sure that you provide your name and contact information this Sunday at the front desk.

+ Walk for Rice on June 25, 2016

Walk for Rice on June 25, 2016

Please join our team "The Flying Sikhs" to Walk for Rice on June 25, 2016 from 8:00 am to 1:00 p.m. at Seward Park, Seattle. Walk for Rice is an annual fundraising event featuring a 2.5 mile walk/run. Proceeds enable Asian Counseling and Referral Service (ACRS) to provide nutritious, culturally appropriate foods through the ACRS Food Bank. We have set a collective goal of $2500 for the food bank through our sangat. The kids have been bringing their Daswandh cans and have collected over $1400 over the last two weeks.

A bus will be leaving from Khalsa Gurmat Center at 7:30 am for the park and will be returning by 1:00 pm.

There are no fees for participating in the event. We all want to walk/run together as a team.

+ Picnic and Prize Distribution - June 19, 2016

Picnic and Prize Distribution: June 19, 2016 at 10:00 am

As we come to the end of the school year, we want to come together to reflect and celebrate the progress that the students have made this past year.

Please invite your friends and family to also join us for the Picnic and Prize distribution at:

  • Venue: Steel Lake Park 2410 S 312th St, Federal Way, WA 98003
  • Time: 10:00 am to 4:00 p.m.

We will start with the assembly shabads, ardas and then have the prize distribution - so please plan to come on time. Also, if possible, please try to car pool so that we can make the best use of available parking at the location.

A family has taken the sewa for the food at the picnic. Feel free to bring any games or food that you would like to share with others.

+ Kids Game Night on June 17, 2016

Kids Game Night on June 17, 2016 at 6:00 p.m.

We will be hosting a game night for the kids and the families this Friday at Khalsa Gurmat Center. Kids will have the ability to play Xbox games and/or board games. Feel free to bring your own games - Pictionary, Monopoly, Gestures, Legos - or anything that you would like to play with others.

We look forward to seeing you there and having an evening of fun and celebration.

Creative Computing Student Fair - June 12, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.

The students from the Creative Computing class will be hosting a fair to showcase the work that they have been doing for the entire year and what they have learned in their classes. We request all the students and the parents to stop by and spend some time while these young minds excitedly share their projects at 2:00 p.m. on June 12, 2016 after the final exams.

Regional Sikh Youth Symposium - May 28, 2016 at 9:30 am

We wanted to request all of you to please be a part of the Regional Symposium at the Khalsa Gurmat Center on Saturday May 28, 2016 for Symposium Group 1 through 4.

The contestants must arrive at the center by 9:30 am - the competition will start sharp at 10:00 am.

+ Poetry on Buses Workshop - May 1, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.

Poetry on Buses Workshop on May 1, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.

We are partnering with King County Arts and Culture Services (4Culture) to feature Punjabi Poetry on Buses, Bus Stops throughout the King county and on their website. We invite all community members of all ages to be a part of this wonderful project! You may be an established poet or an aspiring one - this is the opportunity for you!

Towards this end, we will be hosting a series of workshops that will discuss the details of the project, provide a forum to read and create poetry and solicit the community member to submit their poetry for this project. Selected poems will be displayed on a series of buses, light rail, stations, stops for one year. Poets will also be invited to make presentation to broader audience at different forums.
